What do you get when you take French esprit, Yiddish humor, historical recordings of klezmer music, superb musicianship and an original Edison wax cylinder recorder and mix them all together in one theatrically-inspired program? Waxband, what else? The brainchild of Israeli/French visionary Amit Weisberger, this soulful, whimsical and thought-provoking performance invites audiences to witness what happens when living musicians are confronted with their own reproductions through wax cylinder recordings created in front of their eyes and ears. Which is the original, which is the copy? For that matter, what is the present, what is the past? Waxband poses philosophical questions while taking the audience along on an almost Chaplinesque journey filled with poignant and riotous music.
